For those applying between 25 November and 31 December 2024, a provisional permit will be granted automatically. These provisional permits will allow operators to conduct lotteries starting January 1, 2025, while the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) processes the applications in the first half of 2025. The application process is streamlined through a digital portal, which will be accessible starting 25 November 2024.

Applications must be submitted by 10 December 2024, for guaranteed processing and approval by the start of the new year. If the application is complete and all required documents are provided, operators can expect their permit to be granted without delay.

For those needing additional clarification, Spillemyndigheden has made available comprehensive information about the new land-based bingo regulations. A dedicated webpage provides detailed instructions and all necessary application forms. Operators are advised to review the application materials carefully and ensure all requirements are met to avoid any complications.

A step toward liberalisation and innovation

These regulatory updates reflect Denmark’s ongoing efforts to modernise and liberalise its gambling sector, aligning with broader European trends. The changes are designed to create a more competitive environment while maintaining necessary consumer protections, stated the regulator. By providing more flexible and accessible permit application processes for both charity lotteries and land-based bingo, Denmark wants to foster innovation within these sectors.
