Lanre Gbajabiamila recognised as a beacon of excellence in the African gaming industry

Lanre Gbajabiamila, (pictured above), the Director-General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) in Nigeria, has recently been inducted into the African Gaming Hall of Fame. This prestigious recognition was award to him during an international conference in London, United Kingdom. Known affectionately as ‘Mr. Lottery’, Gbajabiamila has been recognized for his unwavering dedication, commitment, and innovative contributions to the development of lotteries and gaming, not only in Nigeria but across the African continent. His leadership and achievements in the Nigerian lottery industry were lauded by Kate Chambers of Clarion, who presented the award. In addition to the standing ovation he received from prominent figures in the global lottery business, Gbajabiamila was also honoured with another prestigious award from the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC). Farouk Yusuf Yabo, the Permanent Secretary of the Communications Ministry, commended Gbajabiamila for his valuable contributions to data protection in Nigeria.

The accolades for Gbajabiamila did not stop there. Muhammadu Buhari, the former President of Nigeria, extended Gbajabiamila’s term of office as the Director-General of NLRC in recognition of his profound accomplishments during his first term.

Gbajabiamila’s impact on international gaming

One of the highlights of Gbajabiamila’s tenure was the successful hosting of the first-ever International Gaming Conference in Nigeria on in October and November 2023. This landmark event, held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, attracted the most respected players in the lottery and gaming industry from all over the world. The conference was highly praised by both local and international delegates for its excellent organization and the groundbreaking decisions reached during the event. The Director-General of the Ghana Lottery Agency even described the conference as the best to be held in Africa.

Since his appointment as the chief regulator of lottery and gaming in Nigeria, Gbajabiamila has remarkably transformed the industry and steadily moved the lottery to a revenue-earning sector for the country. His induction into the African Gaming Hall of Fame and the accolades he has received are a testament to his exceptional leadership and his significant contributions to the gaming industry in Africa.
