Casinos in South Africa push government to pass legislation allowing online casinos to operate

South African casinos such as Tsogo Sun and Sun International are pushing the government to pass legislation allowing online casinos to operate alongside the already legalized and regulated online sports betting industry.

Kelvin Jones, senior editor of PlayCasino explained how:
For many years, South Africa’s online gambling industry has been operating in a grey zone. The hard blow which the industry took during the Covid-19 lockdown had retail casino operators looking anew at alternative revenue options, and the obvious focus has been on internet gambling. These operators need to reshape their business in the wake of the pandemic, and obviously they want to avoid retrenching staff. The best way to do so is to divest their businesses, and what better – and more proven – way to do so than to offer their services online?”
He continued to say how South Africans are huge fans of casinos having millions that already play at regulated licensed offshore sites that focus fully on the local players, and that well-established casinos such as Tsogo Sun and Sun International are naturally aware of this face but they just want to do things the right way, waiting for the government to give them the green light.

Sun International has been crusading the South African Department of Trade and Industry to permit land-based gambling clubs the rights to offer online casino games. Its SunBet image launched draw-based games a while prior, and plans to present online renditions of live dealer titles.

Tsogo Sun has additionally asked the legislature to look again at existing internet betting enactment. The gathering’s CEO, Chris du Toit said that web based gaming was a ‘characteristic movement‘ for the business, which is as of now at a serious phase of moving into online sport betting.
